Schlingel film festival shows over 100 children's and youth films in Chemnitz
Film programme from 15 to 21 October at the Galerie Roter Turm - 103 films from 36 countries
The SCHLINGEL International Film Festival invites young cinema-goers to Chemnitz from 15 to 21 October. For one week, 103 films from 36 countries will flicker across the screens that are not normally shown in cinemas. 90 of them will be competing for the coveted Schlingel trophies. A supporting programme offers workshops and discussion rounds.
Expert, children's and youth juries will decide the winners in the children's, junior, youth, short and animated film categories as well as Blickpunkt Deutschland. Prizes totalling 30,000 euros will be awarded. The City of Chemnitz is donating the main prize in the International Children's Film Competition worth 5,000 euros.
The European Children's Jury is one of the festival's special ideas. For the 10th time, children from various European countries will come together to award the "European Children's Film Prize". For the first time, two children from Chemnitz's twin city Ljubljana are also taking part. The exchange with the children from Ljubljana is supported with 1,410 euros from the City Twinning Fund. The Sächsische Kinder- und Jugendfilmdienst e. V. receives institutional funding of 70,500 euros this year.
The SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences has attracted between 9,000 and 10,000 visitors to the cinema in recent years. This year marks the 17th edition of the festival. The films always deal with topics that move children and young people. The special atmosphere of the festival is also created by the fact that all films are shown in their original language and translated live in the cinema. This allows visitors to enter a world of other cultures and foreign languages.
