Schilling's figures once again uncovered and receive information sign

On Tuesday, 30 March, from 9.30 am, the four Schilling figures, the "Morning", the "Noon", the "Evening" and the "Night" will be freed from their protective shells. With the help of a crane, the employees of the Parks Department will remove the so-called enclosures. These protect them from the weather in winter. In addition, the four sandstone figures were given an information sign at the request of the association of tour guides. The association donated around 500 euros to cover the costs. The history of the group of figures as well as a description of the individual figures can be read on the sign. The design of the 30 x 40 cm plaque, mounted on two stands in the green areas in front of the group of figures, is based on the information steles on the history of the town.
Peter Börner, Head of the Parks Department, will inaugurate the sign on Tuesday, 30 March at 9.30 a.m. with the association of tour guides. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this photo opportunity.
The group of figures was created between 1863 and 1866 by Johannes Schilling, one of the most important sculptors of his time, for Brühl's Terrace in Dresden. However, the sandstone figures did not cope well with the Elbe climate, so the originals were left to the city of Chemnitz. In 1909, they were erected on Königsplatz, today's theatre square. Due to the construction of the Chemnitz Court, they had to be relocated and have stood at the castle ponds since 1936. The bronze group of figures was made and erected in Dresden.
