Schilling's figures are unveiled

On Tuesday, 4 April, from 9.30 a.m., the sandstone figures "Four Times of Day" created by Johannes Schilling will be freed from their winter protection, the so-called enclosure. The protective devices on the four valuable sculpture groups will be removed on a regular basis.
Media representatives are invited to a photo opportunity.
After the protective covers have been removed by employees of the Parks Department using a crane, they will then be cleaned, repaired and stored in the Parks Department's technical workshops.
The "Schilling Figures" are among the artistic and sculptural gems known far beyond Chemnitz. The four groups of figures were created as allegories of the times of day by the well-known sculptor Johannes Schilling (1828-1910) from Mittweida.
The sculptures made of Postelwitz Elbe sandstone symbolise the times of day "The Morning", "The Noon", "The Evening" and "The Night".
In 1905, the originals made of Postelwitz sandstone were replaced by bronze casts on Brühl's Terrace in Dresden and Chemnitz received the originals.
