Thursday, 12 June

Mayor Philipp Rochold takes part in the festive event to honour the winners of the state mathematics competition for secondary school pupils.

Time and place: 11 a.m., Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In the presence of City Treasurer Berthold Brehm, children and young people from Chemnitz are honoured with the City of Chemnitz Environmental Award 2014.

Time and place: 2 p.m., Chemnitz University of Technology, lecture theatre, Straße der Nationen building.

60 years of the Chemnitz Park Railway: The anniversary celebrations will begin with a festive event in the town hall. Dr Eberhard Langer, now the former President of Chemnitz City Council, will give a speech on behalf of the city about the success story of the popular railway, which was built in 1952 by the then Karl-Marx-Stadt City Council.

Note: From 13 to 15 June, the Park Railway Association is also inviting visitors to its 10th Chemnitz Balloon Festival on the Küchwaldwiese to celebrate the anniversary.

Time and place: 4 p.m., Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber.

Friday, 13 June

50 years of Chemnitz Zoo: City Treasurer Berthold Brehm opens the reception to mark the zoo's anniversary on behalf of the Lord Mayor. The invited guests include zoo patrons, sponsors and many other long-standing friends, supporters and patrons of the facility.

Time and place: 2 pm, Pelzmühle restaurant.

Note: The zoo's 50th birthday will be celebrated publicly at the weekend (14 and 15 June) with a large zoo festival - a separate press release will be published for this. Information: www.chemnitz.de and www.tierpark-chemnitz.de

The Saxon Industrial Museum Chemnitz is opening a special exhibition on the subject of "Spray - a can makes pressure". Information: www.saechsisches-industriemuseum.de

Saturday, 14 June

50 years of the Sigmund Jähn Cosmonaut Centre Chemnitz: To mark the anniversary, Mayor Philipp Rochold welcomes the cosmonaut and honorary citizen of Chemnitz Sigmund Jähn, his Romanian colleague Dumitru Prunario and representatives of the Cosmonaut Centre to Chemnitz Town Hall and invites the guests of honour to the Ratskeller after the talk.

Time and place: 10 a.m., Chemnitz City Hall, Green Salon.

Notes for the media: Media representatives are cordially invited to the photo opportunity at 10 a.m. in the Green Parlour. The anniversary celebration will take place at 2.00 pm directly at the centre in Küchwaldpark (Küchwaldring 20). Mayor Philipp Rochold will deliver the city's greetings. Mayor Miko Runkel visits the zoo festival to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the centre.

Time and place: from midday, area on Nevoigtstraße.

The 6th edition of the open-air event "Classics under the stars" will take place on Chemnitz's theatre square for the first time. The concert will be organised by the Vogtlandphilharmonie Greiz and soloists Kim Sanders and Ricardo Bieleki, the Trio Voc-a-bella, the Singakademie Chemnitz and the René-Möckel-Band.

Time and place: 9 p.m., admission from 7.30 p.m., Theatre Square.

Sunday, 15 June

Mayor Barbara Ludwig welcomes the participants of the 3rd Fichtelberg Cycle Marathon. Organised by the Chemnitz City Sports Association.

Time and place: 9 a.m., Am Wall (in front of the Red Tower).
