Monday, 27 January

Mayor Barbara Ludwig invites the people of Chemnitz to take part in the city's

the city's commemorative event to mark the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the

Auschwitz concentration camp (PM 33 from 21 January 2014).

Time and place: 10 a.m., Memorial in the Park of the Victims of Fascism.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig chairs the meeting of the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge Rescue Association.
Time and place: 3 p.m., RZV office, Schadestraße 17, 09112 Chemnitz.

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig accepts the invitation to the New Year's reception of the

Chemnitz University of Technology.

Tuesday, 28 January

The City of Chemnitz, represented by Mayor Barbara Ludwig, and Deutsche Bahn AG, represented by Group Representative Artur Stempel, invite you to a joint press event on site to mark the completion of the major construction project to replace the Dresdner Platz bridge (PM 44 from 23 January 2014).

Time and place: 1 p.m., Chemnitz main station, meeting room (entrance at Burger King).

Public meeting of the Youth Welfare Committee.

Time and place: 4.30 pm, Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber.

Representatives of initiatives, associations, chambers, churches and other partners meet with Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig to discuss the preparation and support of events to mark the Chemnitz Peace Day on 5 March 2014.

Wednesday, 29 January

Mayor Barbara Ludwig chairs the association meeting of the Zweckverband Sächsisches Industriemuseum.

Thursday, 30 January

Chemnitz City Council invites you to another public information event on the topic of asylum (PM 24 from 15 January 2014). The event will be moderated by the State Centre for Political Education.

Opening of the third and final exhibition of the Henry van de Velde Year 2013, organised by Villa Esche/GGG together with the exhibition partners Industriemuseum Chemnitz and Marianne Brandt Society.

Friday, 31 January

Mayor Barbara Ludwig takes part in the extraordinary association meeting of the Central Saxony Transport Association (ZVMS).

Time and place: 9 a.m., VMS office, Am Rathaus 2, 09111 Chemnitz.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig bids farewell to Dr Liebhard Monzer, medical officer and long-standing head of the City of Chemnitz Health Department, on his retirement.

Time and place: 1 p.m., Health Department, offices, Am Rathaus 8.

The 23rd edition of the regional Jugend musiziert competition will take place from 31 January to 2 February in Chemnitz, Flöha and Stollberg (PM 31 from 20.01.2014).

For the first time, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School will be the main organiser and once again the main venue this year.

Saturday, 1 February

The second edition of the one Oldie Masters "The Football Show of Legends" will be held: The field of participants will be led by the stars of the cup defender Bundesliga selection. Gladbach, Hertha BSC, the local CFC, Erzgebirge Aue and Hamburger SV will also be taking part.

Prominent guest of honour is coaching legend Hans Meyer.

Time and place: 3.00 pm (admission from 2.30 pm), Chemnitz Arena.

At the opening of the exhibition "My world is colour" with works by Ida Kerkovius (1879-1970), Mayor Philipp Rochold will give the city's welcoming address.

The Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz will be presenting the show from 2 February to 27 April, making it the first major solo museum exhibition of the painter and picture weaver in a long time. Information: www.kunstsammlungen-chemnitz.de

Time and place: 6 p.m., Museum am Theaterplatz.

Premiere of the Verdi opera "Don Carlos" in a production by Helen Malkowsky, with musical direction by GMD Frank Beermann. The performance will be given in Italian with German surtitles.
