Wednesday, 20 February

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig congratulates Christoph Magirius, honorary citizen of Chemnitz, on his birthday. The pastor worked for over a decade as superintendent in the former Karl-Marx-Stadt until 1990 and also made a significant contribution to the Peaceful Revolution in this office. Magirius was awarded honorary citizenship on 3 October 1990 for his dedicated work as a citizen of the city after the social change.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig will take part in the SSG's executive committee meeting.

5th German Music Festival from 9-12 May in Chemnitz.

Premiere of the play "Wasps sting even in November" by Ivan Wyrypajew, commissioned by Chemnitz Municipal Theatre. Dieter Boyer is responsible for the production of the world premiere.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig opens the final symposium of the Kuratorium Stadtgestaltung.

Time and place: 4.30 pm, Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig accepts the invitation to the New Year's reception of the Economic Council of Germany, Saxony Regional Association, and gives a welcoming address. Guests of honour at the evening, which is being held under the motto "Strong Saxony - Geinn for Germany", are Federal Minister of Defence Thomas de Maiziére, MDR Director Karola Wille and Hans J. Naumann, Managing Partner, NILES-SIMMONS-HEGENSCHEIDT Machine Tool Group and President of the Saxony 1828 Industrial Association.

Premiere of August Strindberg's "Ghost Sonata" in a production by Eva Lange.

Time and place: 7.30 pm, Schauspielhaus, large stage.


Sunday, 24 February

Premiere of "Can you whistle, Johanna?". The performance based on the children's book by Ulf Stark will be shown in a stage version for puppet theatre by Frauke Jacobi, Nils Dreschke and Lars Frank for children aged six to ten. The play is directed by Lorenz Seib.

Time and place: 3 pm, Schauspielhaus, puppet theatre.
