Monday, 13 October
The 19th SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences will take place from 13 to 19 October 2014 under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig. Cultural Mayor Philipp Rochold will attend the opening of the festival in the CineStar festival cinema, Roter Turm.
132 films from 50 countries flicker across the screens in the festival cinema, with around 100 films competing for the popular SCHLINGEL trophies. The Chemnitz festival is regarded as Germany's most comprehensive platform for international films of this genre. Information: www.ff-schlingel.de
The European Week of Local Democracy will also take place in Chemnitz from 13 to 19 October with an extensive programme (PM 571 from 06.10.2014).

Tuesday 14. October
Gunda Georgi, Head of the City's Office for Youth and Family, welcomes the members of the children's film jury of the 19th SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences to the traditional reception at Chemnitz City Hall.

Invitation to a Finnish literature evening with guests from Tampere, the Finnish twin city of Chemnitz (PM 576 from 09.10.2014).

Wednesday, 15 October
Public meeting of the Chemnitz City Council.
Time and place: 3 pm, Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber.

Opening of the exhibition "NEW FROM THE PERM - international contemporary jewellery art and the Chemnitz Petrified Forest" at the Museum of Natural History Chemnitz in Ljubljana, Chemnitz's Slovenian twin city. The exhibition had previously also visited the Polish twin city of Lodz (PM 577 from 9 October 2014).

Thursday, 16 October
Opening of the start-up centre at Brühl, developed with the support of the City of Chemnitz/Brühlbüro and GGG. The start-up centre is managed by the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC).

In the Gunzenhauser Museum, the special exhibition "Paul Altmann. Consequence" will be opened by curator Anja Richter in the presence of the artist.
The special exhibition marks the start of the Young Contemporary Art from Saxony exhibition series at Museum Gunzenhauser.

7th Chemnitz Company Table Tennis Cup 2014: The largest table tennis event for the economic region of Saxony will be played by active and non-active players on 40 table tennis tables on a playing area of 2,800 square metres. Information: http://www.c3-chemnitz.de
