Saxony-wide campaign "On foot and by public transport to school & daycare centre"

Registration for participation in Chemnitz now possible

The EU Office of the City of Chemnitz invites parents to register themselves and their family for the Saxony-wide campaign "On foot and by public transport to school and daycare centres". The campaign starts on 16 September and ends on 15 October 2021 and is not only looking for as many car-free kilometres as possible, but also personal experiences. Participants with the best story and the most kilometres saved will receive an award.

The "On foot and by public transport to school & daycare centre" campaign is also intended to give parents an opportunity to talk to their children about sustainability, the environment and climate protection, as well as exercise and independence. The aim is to rethink mobility in the family by making small changes to their own routines.

Families are encouraged to leave the car behind and cover kilometres by bike, public transport or on foot. This benefits children's independence on the one hand, and the flow of traffic and the environment on the other. Children gain more confidence in road traffic and can rediscover their way to nursery or school. They gain their own experience and have the sense of achievement of having made the journey themselves.

The initiator is the family magazine "Kind+Kegel", which is implementing this campaign in Chemnitz together with the municipal EU office, the CVAG, the children and youth commissioner and the environmental department of the city of Chemnitz with STADTRADELN as well as the project RADerFAHREN of the TU Chemnitz and the Stadtsportbund Chemnitz e. V. (Chemnitz City Sports Association).

Anyone who registers with "Kind+Kegel" at www.kindundkegel.de/zufusszurschule by 26 July 2021 has a chance to win a prize in advance. In addition to families, daycare groups and school classes can also take part.

The campaign is made possible by the support of local partners who are donating lots of exciting prizes.

You can find more information about the campaign in the current issue of Kind+Kegel and on the website of the City of Chemnitz, EU Office: www.chemnitz.de/europa.
