Saxon campaign "Prevent obstruction"
Interactive travelling exhibition from 7 to 24 May 2018 in the foyer of the Chemnitz municipal swimming pool
On Monday, 7 May at 2 pm, the interactive travelling exhibition of the Saxon campaign "Behindern verhindern" will be opened in the foyer of the Chemnitz municipal swimming pool. All interested parties and representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
Both the time and the place are perfect. The European Day for the Equality of People with Disabilities has been celebrated on 5 May since 1992. A variety of events and campaigns are organised in communities to highlight barriers that still stand in the way of equal participation. The Parade of Diversity, a Dresden tradition, has just made a detour to Chemnitz for this day.
And the location couldn't be better: The city pool, in the Bauhaus style, has not only undergone necessary renovations and modernisation, but has also specifically addressed the needs of disabled people. For example, access and sanitary facilities were checked and adapted accordingly.
The municipal swimming pool was also the venue where the jury meeting for the "New swimming complex" competition was held in mid-March 2018 and the winning design was chosen. Accessibility played an important role in the selection process.
This accessibility is clearly defined and yet very abstract in everyday life, even in construction. The Saxon travelling exhibition "Behindern verhindern" can counteract this and at the same time provide interesting insights into the experiences of people with sensory disabilities.
The exhibition provides an interesting mixture of explanations, facts and figures. It shows examples of good solutions. Hands-on stations and interactive elements allow visitors to immerse themselves in a captivating change of perspective. Interesting experiments with glasses, lip-reading exercises or music in sign language make information comprehensible in an exciting and varied way.
The exhibition includes two modules: one on various visual impairments and one on different hearing impairments. There is also an information terminal with a touch display and keyboard for promotional and explanatory films.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is still working on the exhibition modules for physical and mental disabilities. They are to be added to the in-house travelling exhibition in the near future. This exhibition is another product in the campaign with the motto "Prevent disabilities - time for barrier-free action", which was launched in 2016 with the Saxon Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and well-known ambassadors.
One of these ambassadors is Horst Wehner from Chemnitz, a member of the Saxon state parliament and its second vice president. He will attend the official opening of the exhibition in Chemnitz.
