"Sausewind" day care centre celebrates its anniversary
125th anniversary of Bernsdorfer Straße 147 - Invitation to the press conference on 12 June, 10 a.m.
On Monday, 12 June at 10 a.m., Journslist:innen is invited to a press conference at the "Sausewind" daycare centre, Bernsdorfer Straße 147. Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky and daycare centre manager Astrid Züfle will present the celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of this building, which is still a gem today with its beautiful garden.
On Thursday, 15 June, the children of the municipal facility will celebrate the anniversary with their parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and guests at an open family party. Many alumni and volunteers are also invited to celebrate the big birthday. The celebration will include a colourful programme on the theme of sustainability. Among other things, the children will open the celebration with a poem they have written for the daycare centre.
History of the villa:
In 1898, 125 years ago, the ground-breaking ceremony took place. The villa was built as an extension to what was then Bernsdorf's first school. Since then, it has been used for the education and upbringing of children. In 1928, 45 pre-school children were admitted and the facility was used as a kindergarten for the first time. From 1939, when many mothers had to go out to work due to the war situation, the kindergarten became more prestigious.
Thanks to the tireless commitment of many people, this building has always been a safe place for children, even in difficult times. War damage was repaired with the simplest of means and a great deal of optimism. Women in particular worked hard for the welfare of the children. In June 1947, the kindergarten was expanded by 15 places. From July 1948, children from the age of 4 were also accommodated.
From 1951, regular minor building work began on the villa, and in 1952 new individual kindergarten rooms were set up.
In 2009/2010, the daycare centre underwent a major renovation. In 2017, a lift was added during ongoing operations to provide barrier-free access for all children, parents and visitors.
Today, 55 children are cared for at the centre (including three integration places). The educational team accompanies, supports and supplements the children's education and upbringing at home. The needs-orientated concept includes a high level of parental involvement. All children are offered a living space in the family childcare centre where they can try out and develop their individual abilities. The spacious outdoor area allows the children to work close to nature.
