Safer Internet Day at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre
Two online events on media literacy on 9 February, 5pm and 7pm
Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is taking part in the international Safer Internet Day (SID) for the first time. Two online events from the media literacy project "trau.schau.wem? faktenfest und mediensicher" will be offered to mark the global day of action for more online safety on 9 February.
Both online lectures are dedicated to controversial topics in the everyday digital lives of children and young people and are therefore aimed in particular at parents and educators.
5 p.m., Youth protection and parental controls online
In the first event on the topic of "Youth protection and parental controls online", participants will learn which devices are suitable for children and how they can be configured - including with different access options for children and parents. Speaker Jens Günther will also raise awareness of when children are fit for the Internet and how to balance trust and control.
7 p.m., Influencers as opinion leaders
In the second lecture on the topic of "Influencers as opinion makers", speaker Jenny Stapel will give an insight into how influencers influence value orientations, opinions and purchasing decisions. Participants will also learn how influencers establish relationships with their followers and what social role they can play.

Background
Safer Internet Day (SID) is a global day of action for more online safety and a better Internet for children and young people. It has been held on the Tuesday of the second week of February since 2004 and focuses on a new theme every year as part of the international motto "Together for a better internet". The central theme for 2022 is "Fit for democracy, strong for society". In Germany, Safer Internet Day is coordinated by the EU initiative klicksafe.(www.klicksafe.de)
