Safeguarding the Euba dam with preservation of the technical monument
At its meeting yesterday, the city council decided on how to proceed with the Euba dam. In addition to the urgently needed traffic safety measures, work is planned to prevent water from backing up.
Further remediation is to be planned depending on the financial resources available. The Euba local council will be actively involved in the ongoing process.
The structure on Eubaer Straße is dilapidated, worn and no longer functional in terms of water management. The main deficiencies are the loss of the water-side seal, the lack of drainage of the masonry structure and the high permeability of the existing subsoil. Proper traffic safety is no longer guaranteed. If it rains or snows heavily, the dam will be "forced to back up", an unforeseen and unplanned accumulation of water. In order to prevent this, significant conversion and dismantling measures must be carried out on the bottom outlet tunnel, the gate house and the watercourse together with the stilling basin (catch basin).
Loose and loose components on the water side of the dam wall will be removed and the surface prepared for renovation. Shotcrete will be applied, including anchoring and joint formation. In addition, the wall crown with parapet wall and barrier railing will be repaired. The two crown houses on the dam wall are being repaired, including the complete roof covering.
In order to prevent a "forced back-up", a small opening will be made in the dam wall to install a hydraulic opening as an extension of the existing bottom outlet tunnel. The stilling basin will be dismantled. The valve house will be rebuilt. In addition, the dam stream will be opened up from the bottom outlet tunnel to the road culvert.
The state office lists the Euba dam as a technical monument. The monumental character refers to the entire facility, in particular the dam wall, spillway, gate house and the crown houses.
