Safe journey to school in the new school year
Measures taken by the school road safety working group for the 2015/2016 school year
Next Saturday marks the start of a new phase of life for many young children in Chemnitz. With great expectations, a lot of curiosity, but also with some mixed feelings, the ABC pupils will make their way to school.
Not only the loving support and help of parents, but also the work of many different public organisations in the city of Chemnitz should help to make this new path into life safe and secure.
At the City of Chemnitz's Civil Engineering Department, the School Road Safety Working Group is constantly working with representatives of the traffic authority, the road construction authority, traffic planning, the Chemnitz Police Department, the Education and Sports Department, the Chemnitz transport companies, the public order office and the traffic watch organisation to make suggestions, changes and eliminate potential danger spots and road traffic defects.
In order to improve the exchange of information between the AG Schulwegsicherung and parents and citizens, the service centre can be used by calling 115 or sending an e-mail to schulwegsicherung(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
In the past, intensive work has been carried out on updating the school route maps for primary schools with the labelling of hazards and safe routes.
The following measures, for example, have been implemented to increase safety on school routes in the city of Chemnitz:
- The green phase at the pedestrian lights on Bornaer Straße was extended in favour of pedestrians
- Footpath construction to the daycare centre on Max-Türpe-Straße
- Stopping bans were implemented on Rudolf-Krahl-Straße between Am Karbel and Berganger to improve visibility
- The green arrow for turning right on red from Bernsdorfer Straße into Wartburgstraße has been removed
- Pavement construction on August-Bebel-Straße in the Grüna district
- A temporary parking ban was introduced on Henriettenstraße for the route to Friedrich-Fröbel-Schule as a so-called "parent stop"
