On Thursday, 17 November, from 7 to 8.30 p.m., the adult education centre invites you to a lecture in course room 4.07 at the TIETZ. Vladimir Shikhman from Chemnitz will present his thoughts on Russia's relationship with the West from a historical perspective and put them up for discussion.

Russia's history and self-image are characterised by both cooperation and confrontation with the West. Efforts to reform Russia along Western lines alternate with periods of rejection of the Western way of life. This ambiguity is also evident in the war in Ukraine.
"Historical explanations are playing an increasingly prominent role in Russian propaganda," says Vladimir Shikhman. In his lecture, he explores Russia's relationship with the West from a historical perspective. The historical fantasies and romanticised interpretations of history by the Russian elite have repeatedly led to wars and a renewed isolation of Russia in the recent past.
Prof Dr Vladimir Shikhman is Professor of Business Mathematics at Chemnitz University of Technology. The Russian-born academic has been studying the country's history for many years and is an observer of events in Russia.
