The adult education centre is taking a look at Russia in March. Four selected formats will focus on the current political situation, Russia's attack on Ukraine and its relationship with its neighbours, as well as the country's history. The events invite people to inform themselves and exchange ideas.

Travelling in Russia as a SPIEGEL correspondent: Journalistic insights

To kick things off, SPIEGEL correspondent Christina Hebel will speak online about her everyday journalistic life in Russia. The head of SPIEGEL's Moscow office will shed light on the conditions under which journalists can still work, travel and research in the country. The event will take place online. Post-Soviet lifeworlds. Society and everyday life after communism
3 March to 30 April 2025 - Exhibition
The exhibition "Post-Soviet Lifeworlds. Society and Everyday Life after Communism" by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of Communism is on display in the vhs gallery on the fourth floor of the TIETZ. 20 posters thematise the historical change that the 15 successor states underwent
after the end of the Soviet Union in 1991. Geographically, the focus ranges from Eastern Europe to the Caucasus and Central Asia. The exhibition can be viewed during the opening hours of the Adult Education Centre.

Icy silence downstream: Russia and its neighbours. Reading and discussion
Thursday, 20 March, 6 p.m. - in the TIETZ, event hall
Journalist Michael Thumann takes a special look at Russia's relationship with its neighbours. The foreign affairs correspondent for DIE ZEIT will be presenting his book "Eisiges Schweigen flussabwärts. A Journey from Moscow to Berlin" and also sheds light on German-Russian relations. Following the reading, the author would like to enter into dialogue with his audience. The event is a cooperation between the Chemnitz Project Office of the Saxon State Centre for Political Education and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

If Russia wins - a hypothetical scenario of the international security situation

The question "If Russia wins - a hypothetical scenario of the international security situation" will be explored by security expert Prof Dr Carlo Masala. He will explain the international discussion surrounding an end to the war in Ukraine. He aims to stimulate discussion with a highly theoretical lecture on the positions of Russia, Ukraine, but also the USA, China and the European Union. The event will take place online.
