Road surface of the south ring road is being renewed
Work between Bernsdorfer Straße and Zschopauer Straße, including the ramps, begins on 13 July
On Saturday, 13 July, construction work will begin on the Südring between Bernsdorfer Straße and Zschopauer Straße, including the two ramps for access and egress - initially with the installation of the construction site.
The carriageway surface needs to be repaired. This is urgently required due to the different damage patterns after more than 20 years of operation, also due to the high heavy traffic load on the transit route to the Czech Republic.
The binder and surface course will be milled and replaced on the majority of the road. In areas with serious damage and the heavily used exit areas, the entire asphalt superstructure will be replaced and renewed. Damaged areas in the unsurfaced substructure will be replaced with frost protection material and a hydraulically bound base course, among other things.
The entire project will be realised on the east and west sides. Traffic will be guided on one carriageway in two-way traffic, while the other carriageway is being built.
From Monday, 15 July, the construction work will begin with the installation of additional temporary crossings to the existing ones in the central reservation or in the central island between the westbound and westbound slip roads (in the so-called ear).
In addition, the traffic lights at the Zschopauer Straße/Südring junction must be replaced by temporary traffic lights, as reprogramming the existing stationary traffic lights would not be efficient enough for the changed traffic flows.
All traffic travelling in the direction of Zschopau will then be diverted via the west side and the Zschopauer Straße bridge.
Once the crossings have been completed, probably from Monday 22 July, construction work will begin on the east side. This will also require the access roads from Mittagleite to Südring to be fully closed. The planned construction time for this side is eight weeks.
Once the east side has been completed, traffic will be diverted to the refurbished carriageway. For the construction of the west side, the slip road onto the Südring at Zschopauer Straße in the direction of the A 72 motorway will have to be closed. A diversion with traffic lights via Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße and Bernsdorfer Straße is unavoidable here. In contrast to the construction phase on the east side, however, there will be significantly less heavy goods traffic. A construction period of eight weeks is also planned for the west side.
Construction of the entire project is scheduled to end in mid-November 2024.
The construction costs amount to around 1.15 million euros. The contract was awarded to the company EBG Bau GmbH from Ehrenfriedersdorf.
