Road closures and evacuations due to bomb discovery

Roads in the area around the bomb site have to be closed and residents have to leave their homes, which is likely to affect around 17,000 people. The streets affected are

In order to facilitate the evacuation measures of the city with the support of the police, we ask the residents of the affected streets to leave their homes independently if possible by 5 pm and to wait for the defusing of the explosive bomb with relatives, friends or acquaintances.
Anyone who is unable to stay with relatives or acquaintances can take shelter in the Richard-Hartmann-Halle (Fabrikstraße 9), in the sports hall of the Dr.Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium (Henriettenstraße 35), in the sports hall of the Oberschule Altendorf (Ernst-Heilmann-Straße 11) or in the sports hall of the Gebrüder-Grimm-Grundschule (Heinrich-Beck-Straße 2).
Parents can collect their children from day care centres until 3.30 pm. The following facilities are affected:

  • Hoffmannstraße 35
  • Michaelstraße 58
  • Weststraße 11
  • Am Laubengang 15
  • Hoher Weg

After 3.30 pm, children can be collected from the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium gymnasium. Children in the Katharinenstraße 1 facility can be picked up until 5.00 pm. The City of Chemnitz has set up a citizens' hotline: 0371 488-3344 CVAG will suspend bus and tram services at the start of the defusing operation. This affects lines 23, 31, 32, 62, 72, tram line 1 and regional services on Zwickauer Straße.

The police ask you to drive around the restricted area.
