Road and pavement renewal on Leipziger Straße from Bürgerstraße to Gottfried-Keller-Straße
From next Monday, 7 August, until 20 October, Leipziger Straße between the junction with Bürgerstraße and the junction with Gottfried-Keller-Straße will undergo road and pavement renewal. The construction work is a coordinated measure by the Chemnitz Civil Engineering Office and the utility company eins, which is renewing the street lighting system and carrying out work on the drinking water pipeline in this section.
The repair work comprises the two city-side carriageways including the central reservation and the renewal of the city-side pavement including a reorganisation of the bus stop. The bus stop will be converted into a kerbside bus stop and a bay for short-term parking will be created. Following the reorganisation of this section of Leipziger Straße, two lanes will continue to be available in the direction of the city and the country. By utilising the central reservation, traffic will be swivelled along the bus stop. In addition, a crossing aid will be installed at Gottfried-Keller-Straße. However, this will be constructed as a mobile centre island, as construction work is planned by the utility company eins in the following years. It is therefore necessary to make the centre island removable for traffic management purposes.
It will be realised in four phases, during which Leipziger Straße can be used with at least one lane in each direction at all times. Access to the Gottfried-Keller-Straße residential area and turning left into Bürgerstraße will only be impossible during construction phase two, which is expected to start in mid-September. For this period of approx. four weeks, a diversion for the residential area will be signposted via a temporary crossing into Tannenstraße. The diversion for those turning left into Bürgerstraße will be via Konradstraße, Paul-Jäkel-Straße and Beyerstraße.
The construction company Chemnitzer Verkehrsbau was commissioned with the realisation of the 300,000 euro construction project.
