Road and pavement construction makes tree felling necessary
Renovation of Josephinenstrasse between Wilhelm-Külz-Platz and Ottostrasse
Before the start of the construction project planned by the city's civil engineering department for the renewal of Josephinenstrasse in the area between Wilhelm-Külz-Platz and Ottostrasse from mid-August, a tree - a Norway maple - will have to be felled in the course of the 34th calendar week. The gap in the tree avenue created by the felling will be filled with a new planting in the same place once the construction work has been completed.
It had previously been assumed that all the trees in the construction area could be preserved. However, after selective root digging and an expert appraisal, it has now become clear that one tree cannot be preserved due to its condition and the necessary construction work. The felling authorisation was granted; as the felling must take place within the vegetation period, the environmental agency has granted the necessary exemption.
Regarding the construction measure: The construction measure involves a redistribution of the road space, combined with a clear optimisation of stationary traffic for residents and the addition of the existing roadside greenery. The road surface and pavements will be renewed and at the same time more parking spaces will be created - in future also along the road. According to the city's civil engineering department, work will begin in mid-August in accordance with the construction decision unanimously approved by the planning, building and environment committee (B-091/2013) so that the project can be completed before the onset of next winter.
