Road and civil engineering measures decided

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to carry out the following construction measures.

Extension of three road sections around Lessingplatz
The coordinated construction project includes the southern extension of Lessingplatz on the section between Lessingstraße and Sebastian-Bach-Straße, including the junctions with Uhlandstraße, Markusstraße, Tschaikowskistraße and Sebastian-Bach-Straße.

In addition, the utility company inetz GmbH is laying a new medium-voltage cable and the entire drinking water pipeline is to be renewed. The city's waste disposal company (ESC) is renovating the combined sewer.

The road sections are to be adapted to the already renovated sections around Lessingplatz. In addition, traffic (cars, people, bicycles) and public parking spaces will be reorganised. The construction section has a length of 232 metres. In addition to the renovation of the road surface, the pavements along the main access points will be made barrier-free, the design of the sections will be adapted to the already renovated side streets, the parking spaces will be rearranged and the drainage facilities will be renewed.

Construction will be carried out under full road closure, with the entire stretch being divided into two sections: the first section between the start of the construction site on Lessingstrasse to the junction with Markusstrasse and the second from the junction with Markusstrasse to the end of the construction site on Lessingsstrasse. Construction is scheduled to begin in
September, with completion planned for the end of December 2018. The costs amount to around one million euros, of which around 450,000 euros will come from the municipal budget.

Coordinated construction project Chemnitzer Straße, Grüna district Road surface repair, combined sewer, renewal of drinking water network
The construction project covers the section of Chemnitzer Straße between the Limbacher/Mittelbacher Straße junction and the junction with Reichenbrander Straße. This section of road includes the renewal of the combined sewer, including the section used as a rainwater sewer, with all connecting pipes, the renewal of the drinking water supply pipe with house connection pipes, the repair of the surface, including the junction with Mühlenstraße, as well as the barrier-free conversion of the Reichenbrander Straße bus stops.

The construction work will be carried out with half-sided road closures and one-way traffic regulations. The prescribed direction of travel is out of town. Traffic heading towards the city centre will be routed through the "An der Wiesenmühle" industrial estate. Mittelbacher Straße between Chemnitzer Straße and An der Wiesenmühle will also be designated as a one-way street as part of the diversion route. Lorry traffic will be widely diverted due to the low clearance height of the railway bridge on Mittelbacher Straße. The diversion route is signposted from Wüstenbrand via Oberlungwitz/Mittelbach for HGVs with a vehicle height of more than 3.8 metres. Access for emergency services, neighbours and other supply services will be guaranteed throughout the entire construction period.

The existing road surface on Chemnitzer Straße will be selectively milled off. In addition, the Reichenbrander Straße bus stops in and out of town will be converted to make them barrier-free. As part of the coordinated construction project, the ESC will replace the existing combined sewer with a new sewer laid in the carriageway. The sewer will be used for drainage. In addition, utility company eins is laying new drinking water pipes in the area.

The costs for the measure amount to around 634,000 euros, of which around 516,000 euros are planned in funding. Construction is currently scheduled to begin at the end of June 2018. Completion is scheduled for the beginning of November 2018.

Renewal of Rembrandtstraße between Zschopauer Straße and Zieschestraße
Rembrandtstrasse is being renewed over a length of 315 metres between Zschopauer Strasse and Zieschestrasse. The coordinated construction project is being carried out in consultation with the utility company eins and the ESC, which are renewing the drinking water pipeline and the combined sewer in the area. The upgrade is to be carried out in two sections. The first section runs between Zschopauer Straße and the access road to Rembrandtstraße 13-15 and will be completed by the time the new daycare centre opens (by the end of August 2018). The second section will then be built by the end of November 2018. The costs amount to approx. 486,000 euros from the municipal budget. Due to the urgency of the project, construction will begin in May 2018. Completion of the construction work is scheduled for the end of 2018.
