RKI study on the health of older people
Voluntary participants are also requested in Chemnitz
For the week from 28 February to 4 March, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is planning the launch of the nationwide study "Health 65+", in which Chemnitz residents can also take part. In the study, the RKI is investigating the state of health care for people over the age of 65.
Citizens are randomly selected via the residents' registration office and invited to take part in the study on a voluntary basis. The study involves interviewing women and men four times at three-month intervals about their health, well-being and living situation. If the pandemic allows, a home visit is also expected to take place. Blood pressure, height, weight, calf circumference and hand grip strength will be measured, medication taken will be recorded and two tests on cognitive performance will be completed. The entire survey period of the study is between spring and winter 2022. 4,000 people aged 65 and over from 128 locations across Germany will take part.
The coronavirus pandemic has brought the health of people of this age into sharper focus. The study aims to investigate the extent to which the pandemic has affected the lives, and in particular the health and well-being, of older people. The data will be incorporated into the development of prevention strategies.
