Richard-Tauber-Straße is being renovated and remodelled
Construction starts on 1 July - measure also includes the access roads to the theatre square
On Monday, 1 July, construction work will begin on the renovation and redesign of Richard-Tauber-Straße and the two access roads and entrances to Theaterplatz in the area of the Chemnitzer Hof hotel and St. Petrikirche church.
The redesign of the access roads on both sides of St. Peter's Church includes the west access road with a length of approx. 58 metres and a width varying from 4 to 22 metres, and the east access road with a length of approx. 69 metres and a width varying from 4 to 16 metres.
The renovation of Richard-Tauber-Straße covers a length of approx. 155 metres and a carriageway width of 6 to 8.50 metres, plus the pavements.
The remodelling work will be carried out in compliance with the legal requirements for the protection of the environment in this area. In Richard-Tauber-Straße, a barrier-free transition to Schillerplatz made of small granite paving, supplemented with large cut basalt paving, will be constructed over a length of approx. 50 metres.
The asphalt driveway behind the Chemnitzer Hof will be replaced by small granite paving and will change to black diabase paving towards the theatre square.
The paved access to the theatre square and the paving around St. Peter's Church will be rebuilt in the same way.
In the green area in front of the church, two new locust trees will be planted on the side facing the theatre square and inetz/eins will install four new street lighting masts.
The pavements parallel to Richard-Tauber-Straße will also be renewed in sections that have not yet been renovated. The existing natural stone material on site will be reused as far as possible and supplemented with old and new material from the City of Chemnitz building yard.
The construction work will be carried out with sections of Richard-Tauber-Straße closed to traffic in consultation with local residents and the City of Chemnitz traffic authority.
Access to the Theaterplatz underground car park is guaranteed at all times.
Completion is planned for mid-November. The construction costs amount to around 718,000 euros. The work is being carried out by the company PE Pflasterbau GmbH & Co KG, Schneeberg.
The construction work is part of the preparations for the European Capital of Culture Year 2025 and is being financed from the City of Chemnitz's own funds.
