Richard Hartmann Hall is being made fit for major sporting events
The Richard Hartmann Hall is being upgraded for major sporting events. This was decided today by the city council. The spectator capacity will be increased to 3,193 seats and the lighting system will be equipped to meet the requirements of television broadcasts. In total, the city of Chemnitz is investing around 560,000 euros in the hall.
In summer 2018, Chemnitz will host the U-20 European Basketball Championships, with the Hartmann-Halle being one of the two venues alongside the arena. The German Table Tennis Championships will take place in Chemnitz in June, with the Richard Hartmann Hall also being used as the venue. However, higher demands on the venue would also have to be taken into account if the NINERS were to be promoted to the BBL.
The lighting system on the pitch will be replaced with modern LED lights. This will serve all sports, school sports and other events in the hall. New safety lights, also using LED technology, will also be installed.
The increase in spectator capacity to 3,193 seats in future (including wheelchair users, their companions and media representatives) makes it necessary to install two additional staircases, among other things. Furthermore, additional organisational measures must be taken by the respective clubs for this occupancy. An increase of a further 100 seats would be possible at a later date by adapting the rows of seats.
