2,903 children were born in Chemnitz - Emma and Emil top the list of first names - 745 couples tied the knot
Births
2,903 children were born in Chemnitz in 2023. As in previous years, more boys (1,516) were born than girls (1,387). Twins were born 69 times.
There were slightly fewer births compared to the previous year: 3,141 children were born in Chemnitz in 2022.
The registry office again registered newborns from various countries in 2023, including Syria, Ukraine, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Russia, Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq and Iran.
The most popular first names for girls in 2023 were
Emma (29), Ella (22), Emilia (21), Charlotte (20), Mia (19), Lotta (17), Leni (16), Lia (16), Frieda (13), Lina (13)
The most popular first names for boys in 2023 were
Emil (29), Theo (20), Henry (19), Paul (19), Liam (17), Lio (17), Elias (16), Leo (16), Noah (16), Oskar (15), Felix (14), Fritz (14)
Deaths
4,588 deaths were registered at the Chemnitz registry office in 2023. Overall, however, the number of deaths was slightly lower than in the previous year: 4,591 deaths were notarised in 2022.
Marriages
745 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office in 2023. As every year, the summer months are the most popular for weddings. June with 96 couples, July with 95 couples and September with 93 couples were the months with the most marriages.
There was also a slight decline compared to the previous year: 768 couples got married in 2022.
Most marriages once again took place in the Old Town Hall. 359 couples tied the knot there. One option that is becoming increasingly popular is the wedding room in the Moritzhof civic and administration centre. A total of 153 couples said "I do" there. In the Klaffenbach moated castle, 87 couples exchanged vows, in the Rabenstein castle hotel 64 couples, in the Zeisigwald chapel 48 couples and in the Villa Esche 18 couples. Other marriages took place in the Felsendomen Rabenstein, the Chemnitz stadium and Grüna town hall.
Last year, the bride and groom were again from different countries, including Syria, Turkey, Tunisia, Vietnam, Thailand, France, Italy, Greece, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine.
