Review of the year from the registry office 2022

3,141 children were born in Chemnitz in 2022 - Mia and Emil top the list of favourite first names - 768 couples tied the knot in 2022

Births
3,141 children were born in Chemnitz in 2022. As in previous years, more boys (1,598) were born than girls (1,543). 91 twins were born. In addition, triplets were born once in Chemnitz. Compared to the previous year, there were slightly fewer births: 3,351 children were born in Chemnitz in 2021.

In 2022, the registry office again registered newborns of various nationalities, including Syria, Eritrea, Somalia, Afghanistan, Russia, Vietnam, Ukraine, Iraq and Iran.

The most popular first names for girls in 2022 were
Mia (30), Ella (27), Emilia (24), Emma (22), Mila (18), Charlotte (17), Lotta (17), Anna (16), Hanna (16), Lina (16)

The most popular first names for boys in 2022 were
Emil (25), Oskar (24), Theo (23), Elias (21), Finn (19), Levi (19), Luca (19), Felix (18), Ben (17), Karl (17), Noah (17), Paul, (17)

Deaths
4,591 deaths were registered at the Chemnitz registry office in 2022. Overall, however, the number of deaths was lower than in the previous year: 5,096 deaths were notarised in 2021.

Marriages
768 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office in 2022. As every year, the summer months are the most popular for weddings. July with 105 couples, August with 98 couples and September with 93 couples were the months with the most marriages. There was an increase compared to the previous year: 696 couples got married in 2021.

Most marriages once again took place in the Old Town Hall. 380 couples tied the knot there. The Klaffenbach moated castle saw 113 couples tie the knot, Hotel Schloss Rabenstein 53 couples, the Zeisigwald chapel 59 couples and Villa Esche 26 couples. Other marriages took place in the Felsendomen Rabenstein, in the historic tram, the Chemnitz stadium and in Grüna town hall.
Last year, various nations were again among the bridal couples, including Ukraine, Tunisia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
