3,351 children saw the light of day in Chemnitz in 2021 - Ella and Emil top the first name hit list - 696 couples tied the knot in 2021
Births
3,351 children were born in Chemnitz in 2021. As in previous years, more boys (1,707) than girls (1,644) were born. Twins were born 75 times: 17 boys, 30 girls and 28 mixed pairs. In addition, triplets were born twice in Chemnitz (three girls and two girls and one boy).
Compared to the previous year, there were slightly fewer births: 3,412 children were born in Chemnitz in 2020.
In 2021, the registry office once again registered newborns with various nationalities, including Syria, Eritrea, Somalia, Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, Iraq and Iran.

Deaths
5,096 deaths were registered at the Chemnitz registry office in 2021. This is a slight increase compared to the previous year: 4,805 deaths were notarised in 2020.
Marriages
696 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office in 2021. As every year, the summer months are the most popular for weddings. July with 111 couples, August with 95 couples and September with 92 couples were the months with the most marriages.
Overall, however, the number of marriages was lower than in the previous year: 795 couples got married in 2020.
Most marriages once again took place in the Old Town Hall. 369 couples tied the knot there. 84 couples exchanged vows at the Klaffenbach moated castle, 44 couples at Hotel Schloss Rabenstein, 55 couples at the Zeisigwald chapel and 27 couples at Villa Esche. Other marriages took place in the Felsendomen Rabenstein and in Grüna Town Hall.
Last year, the bride and groom were again from different countries:
Ukraine, Russia, Tunisia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, among others.
