Review of the year from the Chemnitz registry office
3,231 children were born in Chemnitz in 2015 - Sophie and Paul top the list of favourite first names - 864 couples tied the knot in 2015
Our regular annual review from the registry office of the City of Chemnitz, published in January of the new year, once again provides information on the births and deaths recorded in the past year, the marriages and civil partnerships entered into in 2015 and the most popular first names for girls and boys.
Births: Last year, 3,231 children saw the light of day in Chemnitz. That is 208 more than in 2014. 85 of the births in Neuchemnitz were twins and one was a triplet. This year, the birth rate of boys (1,663) was higher than that of girls (1,568).
Various nations were again represented in the notarisation of newborns: Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Turkey.
First name hit list: As in the previous year, the most popular first names are Sophie for girls and Paul for boys.
Here is an overview: The most popular first names for girls in 2015: Sophie (50), Marie (36), Hanna (35), Mia (32), Charlotte, Emma, Johanna, Sophia (26 each), Maria (22), Anna (21). The most popular first names for boys in 2015: Paul (42), Ben (37), Oskar (36), Leon (31), Emil (29), Finn (26), Alexander, Anton, Karl (25 each), Max (24).
Marriages and civil partnerships: In 2015, 864 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office. This means that the number of marriages fell by twelve compared to 2014.
Summer is still the most popular month for marriages - August with 115 couples and July with 111 couples were the most popular months. Most marriages also took place in the Old Town Hall in 2015. 485 couples tied the knot here. A total of 142 couples said "I do" in the Klaffenbach moated castle, 67 in the Zeisigwald chapel and 40 in Villa Esche. Once again, various nationalities were represented among the bridal couples: from Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Tunisia, the Philippines, Thailand and Lebanon.
In addition, 20 civil partnerships were established at the Chemnitz registry office, twelve of which were female and eight male.
A special wedding date this year, due to the constellation of numbers in the date, is 6 June 2016 and 16 June 2016 and, because it is a leap year, 29 February. Registrations for these dates are still possible.
In 2015, 4,146 deaths were notarised at the Chemnitz registry office (2014: 3,985).
