Review of the year from the Chemnitz registry office: 3,014 children were born in Chemnitz in 2013 and Sophie and Ben top the first name hit list

821 couples tied the knot in 2013 and 15 civil partnerships were formed - with three special wedding dates in 2014 - one on Valentine's Day on 14 February 2014

Our regular review of the year from the registry office of the City of Chemnitz, published in the first days of January of the new year, once again provides information on the births and deaths recorded in the registry office in the past year, the marriages and civil partnerships entered into in 2013 and the most popular names for girls and boys.The review of 2013 compiled by Eveline Waszk, Head of the Registry Office, provides information on the marriages and civil partnerships registered in 2013, the most popular first names for girls and boys and, with a view to the new year, of course, the special wedding dates in 2014:

Births: the Chemnitz registry office statistics are particularly good news here, as 3014 children saw the light of day in Chemnitz in 2013, which is 114 more than in 2012. Among the Neuchemnitz residents, there were 81 twin births and one triplet birth. As in previous years, there were 1,529 more boys in 2013; 1,485 girls saw the light of day in Chemnitz in 2013.

Various nations were again represented in the notarisation of newborns, for example parents from Russia and Ukraine, Vietnam, Turkey and Kazakhstan, Venezuela, China, Iran and Iraq.

First name hit list: According to statistics from the Chemnitz registry office, Sophie again topped the first name hit list last year for girls and Ben for boys - here is an overview: The most popular first names for girls in 2013 were Sophie (51), Marie (41), Mia (35), Emma (33), Charlotte (26), Lea and Sophia (23 each) as well as Anna, Emilia and Johanna (22 each). The most popular first names for boys in 2013 were: Ben (43), Paul (42), Alexander (33), Felix (30), Luca (28), Emil (27), Finn and Henry (26 each), Leon (25) and Lukas (22).

Marriages and civil partnerships: In 2013, 821 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office. Head of the registry office Eveline Waszk: "The most popular months were once again the summer months - May with 104 couples, June with 113 couples, July with 102 couples and August with 111 couples. " Most marriages took place in the Old Town Hall again in 2013. A total of 408 couples said "I do" there. A total of 179 couples said "I do" in the Klaffenbach moated castle, 48 couples in the Zeisigwald chapel and 43 couples in the Villa Esche. In 2013, various nationalities were once again represented among the bridal couples, including couples from Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Thailand, Brazil and Romania. In addition, 15 civil partnerships were established at the Chemnitz registry office, seven of which were female and eight male.

4,092 deaths were notarised at the Chemnitz registry office in 2013.

Celebrating weddings in the new year 2014: Now let's look ahead to the new year in terms of weddings: According to Eveline Waszk, special wedding dates for 2014 include Valentine's Day on 14 February 2014 and - not an April Fool's joke, of course - 1 April 2014 and Friday 13 June 2014.

In 2014, the registry office of the city of Chemnitz will also be present with an information stand at the traditional wedding fair held at the end of January at the Chemnitz Exhibition Centre on 25 and 26 January 2014. As in previous years, staff from the Chemnitz registry office will be on hand to answer questions - for weddings in spé.
