Review of the year from the Chemnitz registry office

3,423 children were born in Chemnitz in 2016 - Sophie and Paul top the list of favourite first names - 797 couples tied the knot in 2016

Marriage
"Yes, I do": Chemnitz registrars heard this or a similar affirmation 1594 times last year: This is because 797 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office. (In 2015, 864 marriages were notarised.) The summer months were particularly popular for marriage appointments:
115 in June, 102 in July, 88 in August and 112 in September.

For those who preferred an exclusive date, the leap year 2016 was the
29 February was an option. Six couples chose this wedding day. The most popular places to say "I do" were the wedding halls in the town hall, where 329 marriages took place, followed by Klaffenbach moated castle, where 154 couples tied the knot. The Villa Esche hosted 37 weddings and the Zeisigwald chapel 66 marriages.

Last year, various nationalities were again represented among the bridal couples. They came from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Tunisia and Thailand.

In addition, 22 civil partnerships were established at the Chemnitz registry office, fourteen of which were female and eight male.

Births
Welcome to Chemnitz, the city of birth: 3,423 children were born here last year - 192 more than in 2015. The Chemnitz maternity wards were well equipped for 98 twin births.

In terms of gender, the trend of previous years continued: more boys (1,785) than girls (1,638) were born in Chemnitz in 2016. The registry office registered babies of various nationalities, including Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Turkey, China and Russia.

Sophie (43), Marie (39), Mia (37), Lina (28), Emma (27), Lena (25), Mila (25), Anna (24), Ella (24) and Charlotte (23).


Most popular boys' names in 2016:
Paul (41), Emil (37), Max (32), Jonas (31), Elias (28), Luca (27), Oskar (26), Ben (25),
Felix (25) and Bruno (24).


Deaths
4,104 deaths were notarised at the Chemnitz registry office in 2016.


Marriages in 2017
Special wedding dates are 7 July 2017 and 17 July 2017 as well as Friday, 13 October 2017.

Chemnitz is offering wedding ceremonies at Schlosshotel Rabenstein this year.

In 2017, the registry office of the city of Chemnitz will once again be present with an information stand at the wedding fair at Messe Chemnitz on 21 and 22 January.
