Review of the year from the Chemnitz registry office
3,023 children were born in Chemnitz in 2014 - Sophie and Paul top the list of favourite first names - 876 couples tied the knot in 2014
Our annual review from the registry office of the city of Chemnitz, which is regularly published in January of the new year, once again provides information on the births and deaths recorded in the registry office last year, the marriages and civil partnerships entered into in 2014 and the most popular first names for girls and boys.
Births: The Chemnitz registry office statistics are particularly good news, as 3,023 children were born in Chemnitz in 2014, nine more than in 2013. Among the Neuchemnitz residents, there were 82 twin births and five triplet births (there was one triplet birth in 2013). This year, the birth rate for girls (1512) was just above that of boys (1511).
Various nationalities were again represented in the notarisation of newborns, for example parents from Russia and Ukraine, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Croatia, China, Iran and Iraq.
First name hit list: According to statistics from the Chemnitz registry office, Sophie once again topped the first name hit list for girls and Paul for boys last year. Paul replaces Ben as the most popular first name - here is an overview:
The most popular first names for girls in 2014 were Sophie (41), Marie (39), Mia (38), Emma (37), Johanna (27), Emilia (22), Charlotte and Sophia (21 each).
The most popular first names for boys in 2014 were: Paul (60), Luca (31), Alexander (30), Jonas (28), Oskar (27), Ben and Max (26 each).
Marriages and civil partnerships: 876 couples said "I do" at the Chemnitz registry office in 2014. This means that the number of marriages increased by 55.
Summer is still the most popular month for marriages - August with 120 couples and July with 109 couples were the most popular months. Most marriages also took place in the Old Town Hall in 2014. 472 couples tied the knot here. A total of 149 couples said "I do" in the Klaffenbach moated castle, 69 couples in the Zeisigwald chapel and 51 couples in Villa Esche. Last year, various nationalities were again represented among the bridal couples: from Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan and Romania.
In addition, 19 civil partnerships were established at the Chemnitz registry office, eleven of which were female and eight male.
In 2014, 3,985 deaths were notarised at the Chemnitz registry office (2013: 4,092).
Registry office at wedding fair: In 2015, the registry office of the City of Chemnitz will once again be present at the "Hochzeit Feste Feiern" and "Baby plus Kids" trade fairs, which are traditionally organised in January. Staff from the registry office will be on hand at an information stand at the fair on 17 and 18 January 2015 to answer questions - for that very special day in your life.
