The Traffic Monitoring Department of the City of Chemnitz has today released the results of the checks carried out on Road Safety Day, Saturday 20 June. To mark this nationwide day of action, checks on both stationary and moving traffic were stepped up on that day.

Offences causing specific disruption to other road users were recorded at the following locations, amongst others:
- Pfarrstraße: Blockage of the pavement
- Fritz-Matschke-Straße, corner of Kanalstraße: failure to keep the junction clear
- Altendorfer Straße/Leipziger Straße: Parking on cycle lanes
- Adorfer Straße: Parking on pavements and in no-stopping zones, causing specific disruption to both stationary and moving traffic
Conclusion:
Enforcement of parking regulations creates clear pathways, safe roads and promotes mutual consideration. Incorrectly parked vehicles endanger other road users, particularly children, older people and those with disabilities. The aim is not to issue fines, but to ensure fair and safe road spaces for everyone – because order on the roads is achieved through respect and consistent adherence to the rules.

Offences involving the highest speed exceedances were recorded at the following locations, amongst others:
- Neefestraße near the BAB 72 – accident blackspot: A road user exceeded the permitted speed limit outside built-up areas by 37 km/h. Permitted speed: 50 km/h. Recorded speed: 90 km/h. (The measurement tolerance of 3 km/h was taken into account.) Penalty: 200 euros + costs/fees – 1 penalty point
- Südring at the Annaberger Straße slip road – Roadworks area: A road user exceeded the speed limit within built-up areas by 30 km/h. Permitted speed: 50 km/h. Recorded speed: 83 km/h. (The measurement tolerance of 3 km/h has been taken into account.) Penalty: 180 euros + costs/fees – 1 point

Speed checks serve to improve road safety and raise awareness of the need for greater respect and consideration on the roads. The aim is to raise awareness of the need to comply with traffic regulations, prevent accidents and protect all road users as effectively as possible.
