Restricted regular operation at primary and special schools as well as day-care centres/after-school care centres

From Monday, 29 November, on the basis of the Saxon School and Daycare Centre Corona Ordinance of 20 November 2021, daycare centres and primary and special schools will operate on a limited regular basis with fixed classes or groups and fixed caregivers in defined rooms or areas.

Depending on the local staffing situation, the providers of the daycare centres/after-school care centres can decide whether full childcare can be provided or whether the scope of care must be limited.

There is no entitlement to full childcare as in regular daycare centres. Guardians who belong to the professional groups listed in the annex to the SächsSchulKitaCoVO (system-relevant professions) should be guaranteed full childcare for their children.

In order to claim entitlement to full care, legal guardians submit the "Form for proof of professional activity for emergency care" to the centre where their child/children are being cared for.

The centre decides on the composition of the groups. The groups can be mixed-age, i.e. children of crèche and kindergarten age together in one group/one area. The composition of the groups is based on the employment status of the parents.

If there is no longer sufficient availability of educational staff in a daycare centre, the following phased schedule comes into effect:

Care times

Professional groups

7.30 am to 12 noon

At least one parent is not employed (alternatively not in training)

8 am to 3.30 pm

Both parents are employed (alternatively in training)

6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Both parents work in system-relevant professions (Annex to § 2 Para. 4 Sentence 2 and to § 2a Para. 2 Sentence 2)

These stipulations apply to all day care centres run by the City of Chemnitz. Corresponding stipulations must be made by the respective providers for the day-care centres run by independent providers. It is recommended that the regulations of the City of Chemnitz be followed.

Primary and special schools

Restricted regular operations will also apply at primary and special schools in cooperation with after-school care centres from Monday 29 November:

  • Lessons according to timetable - Supervision by teachers
  • After-school care after the regular end of lessons by specialised educational staff
  • The after-school care group is made up in the same way as the class
  • Early and late after-school care is only offered to parents in "system-relevant professions" if there is no longer sufficient availability of educational staff in an institution.

Emergency care is available for primary and special schools that have been partially or completely closed by general decree of the Saxon Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. This is provided for children with one parent working in "system-relevant professions". The school and after-school care centre management coordinate the specific childcare times.

For the care of children from a primary or special school who attend another after-school care centre, a decision is still being made as to whether they will remain in the after-school care centre at the location of the primary or special school. Further information will follow.
