"Rest in peace - Where do our gravestones come from?"
Information event at the Environmental Centre on 21 September
On 21 September 2016, an information event on the topic of fair stones will take place at 7 pm in Jakobisaal, Theaterstraße 25, organised by the Agenda 21 city coffee/fair procurement working group and the Protestant Forum. There will be a report on the possibilities for local involvement and information on the situation in the countries of origin of natural stone, such as India and China.
Background:
Natural stones have become modern and look beautiful, especially in natural surroundings. Local authorities, private individuals and cemeteries are increasingly using natural stone for design purposes. A large proportion of natural stone now comes from India, Vietnam and China, for example. International social and environmental standards play only a subordinate role in these countries. Child labour, but also dust, noise and poor working conditions are the order of the day.
