Residents of Usti nad Labem 97 street can return to their homes
City and GGG offer their support on site
Two days after the police operation at 97 Usti nad Labem Street, repair work has begun on the flats in the building. A total of 43 residents were affected by the evacuation of the building. Most of them have found private accommodation. On Monday morning, 7 residents of the building were in a hotel.
Now that the police investigation on site has been completed, GGG, as the owner of the building, immediately commissioned companies to repair the damage caused by the incident. The companies will make the flats lockable again during the night so that the tenants can return to their flats on Tuesday.
On their return, residents will have access to staff from the city council and GGG to answer any questions and solve any problems they may have. The public authority number 115 is also available from 8 am to 6 pm. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will invite the residents of the house at 97 Usti nad Labem Street to a personal meeting on Wednesday. The aim is to give those affected a platform for their questions, problems and requests for support after these dramatic days.
For Mayor Barbara Ludwig, one thing is certain: "We will do everything we can together with the GGG to support the citizens affected by the events as best we can. I would like to thank the emergency services who managed to prevent the worst from happening. And I would like to thank the people of Chemnitz for their level-headedness in this exceptional situation, which was unprecedented for us. Unfortunately, this situation can now happen anywhere in Germany. Everyone who lives in the city hoped that something like this would never happen here. When I became mayor 10 years ago, I could never have imagined that the world would be ripped from its anchors like this."
