On Wednesday, 11 February, the European Day of the Emergency Call 112, from 6 p.m., the vehicles of the civil defence and civil protection units of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), the Workers' Samaritan Federation (ASB) and the German Red Cross (DRK) will move together with units of the volunteer fire brigades of the city of Chemnitz in a joint exercise drive through the Chemnitz city area. Two separate marching units of all organisations are planned, which will travel from the starting point Chemnitz-Center or Neefepark to the market and arrive there at around 7 pm. There may be traffic restrictions along the route.
The formation will practise driving under special signals. In addition, the formation is clearly recognisable by the flag markings: blue flags on the lead vehicle and all following vehicles and a green flag on the tail vehicle.
It should be noted that the approximately 10 vehicles in a convoy are regarded as a single unit. As soon as the lead vehicle enters an intersection, the entire unit must pass through it, even if, for example, the traffic lights change to red in the meantime.
The emergency units of the 25th Medical Task Force, the Water Rescue Group, the Technical Relief Organisation and the Chemnitz Fire Brigade will demonstrate the joint expertise behind the emergency number 112 and the volunteer emergency services that are deployed for the city and region.
In the run-up to the event - from around 4.30 p.m. - interested parties can take a close look at the vehicles and ask questions at the Chemnitz Centre and Neefepark starting points. There will be another opportunity to do this at the finish point on the market square at around 7 pm.
