Rescue to preserve the buildings at Zöllnerplatz 20/21 not possible - demolition work begins next Tuesday
Road users please continue to observe the one-way traffic regulations on Blankenburger Straße and the diversion route
The City of Chemnitz's long-standing efforts to find prospective buyers to save and preserve the buildings at Zöllnerplatz 20 and 21 were unfortunately unsuccessful: although funding of around 100,000 euros per property had been made available in the past for safety measures, all interested parties cancelled after examining the ruinous building fabric. The reason why the city has now decided to completely demolish the buildings is the extremely ruinous condition of both buildings, which prevents them from being saved and preserved, as well as the associated risk to public safety in the area. The partial road closure that has been ordered must be lifted as soon as possible.
The necessary demolition work will begin on Tuesday, 8 April 2014. The specialist company Lengenfelder Abbruch- und Recycling GmbH has been commissioned by the City of Chemnitz.
The aim is to complete the work by the end of April at the latest so that the road can be reopened to traffic.
Information for road users: Please also note the necessary one-way traffic regulations already in place in the area and the diversion route. Should further restrictions become necessary at times during the complete demolition of both buildings, information will be provided in good time. The traffic routing with one-way street regulation (PM 803 dated 19 December 2013 - www.chemnitz.de) on Blankenauer Straße/Wilhelm-Külz-Platz in the inbound direction, which was ordered in mid-December 2013, remains in place. Traffic travelling out of the city in the opposite direction will also continue to be diverted via Müllerstraße/Wilhelm-Külz-Platz / Straße der Nationen / Christian-Wehner-Straße / Chemnitztalstraße. Background: The original starting point of the City of Chemnitz was to save and preserve the buildings at Zöllnerplatz 20 and 21. Accordingly, the city had tried to find new owners who would be able to secure and renovate the properties in order to prevent further deterioration. Unfortunately, the city's efforts were unsuccessful. In the foreclosure proceedings finally initiated by the city for property number 20, the city bought the property at auction in February 2014. The owner of property number 21 had already given up his property last year, so it was ownerless and the city secured the rights to the property. The city must ensure both hazard prevention and the re-opening of the road. The real estate office of the City of Chemnitz will continue to market the properties at Zöllnerplatz 20/21.
