Rescue association receives new vehicles

In the presence of the District Administrator of the Erzgebirgskreis, Frank Vogel, and the Mayor Sven Schulze, a new vehicle for the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge Rescue Association will be presented next Monday, 30 April at 3.15 p.m. in the Schadestraße 17 rescue control centre. Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
The rescue association has put the first new ambulance into operation. It is a so-called swap-body system from the equipment manufacturer Fahrtec Systeme GmbH in Neubrandenburg. Compared to the panel vans previously used, this body offers considerably more space. This benefits patients and ambulance staff alike. In addition, the patient compartment in these ambulances is mounted on the chassis in the form of an aluminium construction so that it can be replaced with a new vehicle at the end of its service life.
The basic Mercedes Sprinter vehicles have an air-sprung rear axle. This also directly benefits the patients, who are thus exposed to less strain during transport to hospital, especially on poor roads. In addition, the vehicles have a selectable all-wheel drive system to ensure that supplies can be provided even in wintry road conditions.
A total of 35 of these vehicles will be purchased by summer 2018. The costs total 5,250,000 euros. 24 vehicles will be used to replace old ambulances, while 11 additional vehicles will be put into service to improve the provision of rescue services.
