Requirements plan for daycare centres and after-school care centres adopted until 2021
At its meeting today, the City Council approved the planning of the City of Chemnitz's capacities for child daycare centres, early intervention facilities, after-school care facilities for children from special schools and child daycare until 2021 (daycare needs planning).
The aim of the daycare needs planning is to implement the legal entitlement to education, upbringing and care for crèche and kindergarten children in a daycare centre or daycare facility and to provide places for after-school children to cover demand.
For this purpose, it is necessary to update the capacities of 2018 and to continue planning the capacities of the City of Chemnitz for daycare centres, early intervention facilities, after-school care facilities for children from special schools and child day care until 2021.
Seven daycare centres with 580 places for children of crèche and kindergarten age will be built by 2020. Two facilities will be completely refurbished, providing 180 new places. These places to be created have already been decided in the 2016 and 2017 requirements plans.
The capacity for children of nursery age has a coverage rate of more than
100 per cent. This is due to the fact that children from the surrounding area also attend independent primary schools and special schools, for which an after-school care place is also provided.
From the 2021/2022 school year, 50 new after-school care places will be created for the Charlottenstraße primary school in school district V and the "Am Campus" primary school in school district IV. These are to be established at the start of the 2021/2022 school year by using mobile classrooms.
The planned capacity expansions at existing primary schools were also taken into account when planning the after-school care places.
