Report on the stadium: Extension of the east stand and shell of the main stand largely completed - majority of contracts awarded to the region

Lord Mayor informs the Planning, Building and Environment Committee

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig informed the Planning, Construction and Environment Committee today about the status of work on the stadium construction site on Gellertstraße.

The extension work on the east stand has largely been completed, and the stand could already be used for the match against Hansa Rostock on 1 August 2015. The installation of the supports and stand panels in the west stand has been completed. The roof and the wheelchair stand area are currently being constructed. The structural work on the main building is essentially complete, with the dry lining work and installation work on the ventilation and heating being carried out. In addition, the guidance system and signage are currently being installed.

A topping-out ceremony is planned together with the CFC and BAM Sports on 7 October 2015.

Around €18.6 million of the approximately €26.6 million in construction costsapproved by the city council in July has already been paid out for services. In the total cost overview, 25.1 million euros have been contractually committed to date.

General contractor BAM Sports has so far commissioned 48 subcontractors with partial services. The majority of the contracts have been awarded to companies in the region: 32 companies come from the Chemnitz area and Saxony.

Keyword stadium: The remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße will take place during ongoing match operations. A modern arena with 15,000 seats is being created, of which approx. 9,000 seats and 6,000 standing places, including a family block and barrier-free seats. The client is the city of Chemnitz.
