Report on the City of Chemnitz's European work in 2012 presented

Yesterday, the annual report on the City of Chemnitz's European work in 2012 was presented to the City Council. The report (information document I-013/2013) provides information on the city's projects, funding plans and activities organised jointly with associations and institutions in connection with the European Union. In doing so, the city administration is fulfilling the 2008 decision to expand its EU work and the mandate for regular annual reports.

The transnational projects of the City of Chemnitz in the past year ranged from career promotion, transport networking, youth meetings to environmental education, lifelong and intercultural learning. European Structural Funds were used in Chemnitz to support district development, small businesses, leisure activities and people disadvantaged on the labour market, especially young people.
For example, "AUFwachsen-ZUSAMMENwachsen - Die Erweiterung", a family project with Ústí nad Labem organised by the association DIE Brücke e. V., was funded. Other examples include the youth democracy project of the Interkulturelle Gärten e.V. "Sommerakademie. Cultural diversity and participation at local level" and the project "Unisono - Borderless Music", which involved a student exchange and the development of a joint piece by the music schools in Chemnitz and Chomutov.

A significant part of the work of the EU office and therefore also in the EU report is the work in networks. The many advantages of membership in the European network of major cities EUROCITIES are described. In addition, dates and contacts on the subject of Europe in Chemnitz are listed.
