Replacement construction of the bridge over the Würschnitz in Harthau begins

Work to replace the Klaffenbacher Straße bridge over the Würschnitz begins in Harthau on 6 April. The work is scheduled for completion at the end of November 2022. This bridge will be the last new bridge structure to be built in Harthau for the time being in connection with the implementation of the flood protection concept. A full closure of the B 95 at this point is unavoidable until the end of May. Afterwards, two lanes of traffic will be routed via a temporary road.

New bridge structure for HQ 25

The new bridge, which has a clear width of 15 metres, does away with the previous central pillar. This enables a larger drainage cross-section, so that flood safety up to HQ 25 is guaranteed.

The connection areas to the existing embankment walls will also be constructed. The construction work has to take place under complicated spatial conditions, as the bridge is located directly at the junction of Klaffenbacher Straße and Annaberger Straße (B 95). There is hardly any free space left for the construction site logistics and the actual work.

Due to the great importance of the affected roads for traffic, there are only limited time periods for closures, so that time constraints have a significant impact on the technology. In addition, fish protection periods must also be observed for the work directly in the water.

The project is organised as a coordinated construction measure with the participation of the state dam administration (LTV) and inetz GmbH. The contract is worth around 1.6 million euros and was awarded to Krause & Co. Hoch-, Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH from Neukirchen/Adorf.

Traffic restrictions and diversion recommendations

As the bridge is being built in the course of Klaffenbacher Straße, Klaffenbacher Straße will inevitably be fully closed until around October 2022 until the new overpass is built. The full closure is in the area of the Annaberger-/Klaffenbacher Straße junction.

The construction and securing of the excavation pit for the bridge abutment in Annaberger Straße and the construction of a temporary bypass will also require the full closure of Annaberger Straße from 6 April to 28 May 2021. As the excavation pit with the shoring extends to the centre of Annaberger Straße, no other traffic routing, not even a half-sided one, is possible during the construction of the pit and the shoring for reasons of space and safety.

During the full closure, the sheet pile wall shoring must be installed in rocky ground after the explosive ordnance check, among other things. This shoring must then also provide the necessary stability for the loads of the traffic that will later pass by the excavation pit.

A temporary road will then be built around the excavation pit, which will allow two lanes of traffic from 29 May. This will ensure that Annaberger Straße remains functional for most of the construction period.

At the end of the construction period in 2022, another full closure of four weeks will be necessary to remove the shoring and dismantle the bypass.

The diversion route for car traffic will be via Annaberger Straße, Südring, Wolgograder Allee, Chemnitzer Straße, Klaffenbacher Hauptstraße and Annaberger Straße. Lorry traffic will be diverted towards the city and country via Südring, Zschopauer Straße (B 174) and the B 180 via Burkhardtsdorf. In Burkhardtsdorf, traffic will be routed via Adorf, Neukirchen, Stollberger Straße, Wolgograder Allee, Südring to Annaberger Straße.

The rescue service is guaranteed from all directions to the Annaberger Straße/Klaffenbacher Straße construction site. For technical reasons, it is not possible for rescue vehicles to drive directly through the construction site area. The Integrated Rescue Control Centre of the Chemnitz/Erzgebirge Rescue Association regularly receives traffic routing information from the City of Chemnitz Civil Engineering Department so that all necessary rescue operations can be coordinated.
