Replacement construction of the bank wall on the Wittgensdorfer Bach in the Obere Hauptstraße area

At its meeting today, the city council decided to replace the bank wall on the Wittgensdorfer Bach in the Obere Hauptstraße area. The reason for this is the desolate condition of the structure, which is in danger of collapsing and is showing the first signs of demolition and subsidence on the adjoining footpath.

In addition to the left bank retaining wall parallel to the road, two neighbouring bridges are also affected by the construction work. The old wall will be demolished and built as a sheet pile wall including natural stone facing and reinforced concrete head beams. The two neighbouring bridges are reinforced concrete structures on small grouted piles. Pipelines will be relocated or removed for the new replacement construction. The planning and construction work is based on a HQ 100 flood.

To prevent a full closure, a traffic light regulates the single-lane passage.

The construction work is divided into two sections: This year, the temporary road widening with closure of the half of Obere Hauptstraße facing away from the stream is planned. And next year, all the wall and bridge work will be carried out with the half of Obere Hauptstraße facing the stream closed. The overall construction period is scheduled from mid-October 2019 to the end of October 2020. The costs amount to 645,700 euros from the city's own funds.
