Replacement bridge Zschopauer Straße
At its meeting today, the city council decided to replace the Zschopauer Straße bridge over the railway tracks. Along a section of 550 metres along Zschopauer Straße, in addition to the replacement construction of the bridge, the Ritterstraße traffic light crossing will also be renewed, a missing cycle connection on the bridge will be created, the barrier-free expansion of four bus stops on Lutherstraße and Clara-Zetkin-Straße as well as the associated road expansion will be realised. As part of the road construction, the road will be widened by 2.6 metres and a new footpath will be laid. The Deutsche Bahn AG construction project includes track renewal and the renewal of the combined sewer crossing the railway line.
The new construction of the road bridge over the Dresden-Werdau and Chemnitz-Aue railway lines by the city of Chemnitz is part of the construction project of Deutsche Bahn AG, the so-called "Chemnitz railway arch".
The replacement construction of the bridge is to be carried out in two construction phases while maintaining two lanes of road traffic and pedestrian/cycle traffic on Zschopauer Straße. Full road closures will be necessary for the bridge demolition (approx. one week), for the installation of the prefabricated parts and for the installation and removal of the canopy formwork (night closures).
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-August 2019 and be completed in mid-May 2022 The total costs amount to 11.7 million euros. Of this, 7.27 million euros in funding has been applied for.
