Reorganisation of addiction prevention in the city of Chemnitz
Joint press release by the City Mission and the City of Chemnitz
The city of Chemnitz networks and promotes various services and initiatives on addiction issues and finances addiction prevention work in the city, among other things. The Chemnitz City Mission, which has previously provided these services on behalf of the city, will end its addiction prevention services in agreement with the city on 31 December 2020.
The City of Chemnitz will continue the regional addiction prevention centre and the Vitamine programme for schools next year under different sponsorship. This will further utilise the synergy effects, for example in the area of addiction prevention in schools. The new programme will be established through a corresponding expression of interest procedure. However, the project will not start until 1 March 2021 at the earliest. Stadtmission Chemnitz remains a reliable partner in the addiction support landscape of the city of Chemnitz.
Since its inception, the specialist centre has initiated and implemented numerous innovative activities and projects. Pioneering materials and methods for addiction prevention have been developed in the process.
Mayor Ralph Burghart: "Addiction prevention is an important concern of the city of Chemnitz. It is particularly important for young people to learn how to deal with the demands of everyday life in a healthy and appropriate way. This is also achieved with good addiction prevention."
Director of the Chemnitz City Mission, Karla McCabe: "In future, we will focus on the addiction support services that enable us to pay our employees fairly against the backdrop of our high level of equity investment despite Corona and in view of the city's budgets. It is important to us that the work is transferred into new hands. We wish the new organisation every success and good ideas."
