Renowned Laureus Foundation gets involved in Chemnitz
Start of collaboration with donation raffle at the Chemmy awards ceremony
The 17th edition of the Sport Chemmy, the annual athletes' award and sports honour in Chemnitz, is being expanded to include a charity project. The occasion is the start of a cooperation between Chemmy organisers and the world-famous Laureus Sport for Good Foundation from 2014. The foundation promotes sports projects that bring together children of different social backgrounds and skin colours.
The collaboration will kick off with a donation raffle in the programme for the Sport Chemmy awards ceremony on Saturday, 5 April at 8 pm in the Schloz & Wöllenstein offices. The aim is to collect donations for a future project in Chemnitz supported by the Laureus Foundation. Associations, independent sponsors and other stakeholders are therefore invited to apply with their favourite project by 5 May 2014. The City of Chemnitz is delighted that the organisers of the Chemmy have succeeded in winning over the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation for joint activities in Chemnitz that are committed to social engagement. Apart from Berlin and now Chemnitz, there are no other Laureus Foundation projects in the new federal states.
The Laureus Foundation is supported by world-famous active and retired athletes, including legends such as Edwin Moses, Katarina Witt, Franz Beckenbauer and Boris Becker. Their names are synonymous worldwide with social sports-related projects that initiate and promote inclusive and integrative joint sporting activities for children with and without disabilities. "Sport has the power to change the world" - this quote from Nelson Mandela is the guiding principle of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the main idea behind the cooperation that has now been launched in Chemnitz.
