Renovation work on the small weir near the pond in the waterworks park

The small weir in the bypass is currently being renovated in the waterworks park in Altchemnitz. The ageing masonry of the abutments has cracked and become leaky.

The small weir serves to dam up the bypass, which runs parallel to the Zwönitz in this area. The pond in the waterworks park is supplied with water by the damming.

The water level in the pond may drop slightly during the construction period due to the subsoil and lack of water supply.

During the construction work, there may be temporary obstructions on the forest paths. The work is expected to last until mid-March.

The company Techno-Farm und Service GmbH from Adorf is renewing the dilapidated abutments on behalf of the Environmental Agency in cooperation with the City of Chemnitz Civil Engineering Department.
The cost of the construction work amounts to 16,364 euros.

Explanation of the term

  • A diversion channel is an artificially created bypass or, more rarely, a naturally formed branch of a watercourse that protects against flooding during high water.
  • A gate is a device (gate valve, gate plate) for blocking and damming watercourses or sluices. Larger installations are known as weirs.
