On Wednesday, 26 August at 1.00 pm, Mayor Thomas Kütter will perform the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the comprehensive refurbishment of the ‘Rappelkiste’ nursery building at Auerswalder Straße 119 in the Borna-Heinersdorf district. Representatives from the political sphere, the City of Chemnitz and the trades involved in the construction will also be present.
Media representatives are invited to attend.
The modernisation will improve energy efficiency, fire safety and the building’s technical systems. Plans include new windows, roof renovation, a new air-to-water heat pump and a photovoltaic system. The existing gas condensing boiler will be retained to cover peak loads.
The educational facilities will also be improved: flexible group rooms with movable partition walls, a new covered loggia providing additional outdoor space, and a new external emergency staircase are all part of the refurbishment. The electrical, heating, plumbing and ventilation systems will be completely renewed.
Construction work is scheduled to be completed in November 2027. The refurbishment will ensure the nursery is fit for the future, combining modern childcare, safety and sustainability.
The City of Chemnitz is investing around 2.1 million euros from its own funds in the maintenance and modernisation of the site. The childcare capacity of 103 children, including 25 nursery places and three integration places, will remain unchanged.
