Renovation of the fountain at the Red Tower continues
The renovation of the fountain at the Red Tower will continue at the beginning of March. After the scaffolding was erected and covered with tarpaulins last week, the heating of the fountain has now begun. The system must be dried. This is a prerequisite for being able to continue the repair work, which is expected to start next Monday. Construction work is expected to continue until the end of April. The costs amount to approx. 125,000 euros.
The measure was planned by the planning office Kretschmar & Partner, Dresden and will be carried out by the construction company Hübler from Dresden.
Explanation: When renovation work began on the fountain at the Red Tower in autumn 2017, very heavy waterlogging of the entire structure was detected after the joints in the upper basin were opened. Drying out of the components to be renovated is a basic prerequisite for the installation of the sealing materials. Another prerequisite is mild temperatures. After the constant trickling of water from the masonry continued over a long period of time, it was decided to continue the renovation work in spring 2018. Once the renovation of the upper basin has been completed, it will be possible to determine whether further repair work (possibly further sealing due to water loss) is required on the two lower basins.
