Renovation of fountain at the Red Tower (upper basin) completed
The renovation of the upper basin of the fountain at the Red Tower has been completed. Thanks to the winter shelter, the repair work could be carried out quickly over the past few weeks. At present, it is still unclear whether it will be necessary to continue the renovation work on the two lower fountain basins. The current test run of the fountain system will show this. To this end, the water level is being held for a while to see whether water losses continue to occur.
Explanation: When renovation work began on the fountain at the Red Tower in autumn 2017, very heavy waterlogging of the entire structure was detected after the joints in the upper basin were opened. Drying out of the components to be renovated was a basic prerequisite for the installation of the sealing materials. Over the past few weeks, the well system was completely dried out. This allowed the joints in the upper basin to be professionally resealed. The badly damaged natural stone slab surface (in the direction of the Red Tower) was also renewed. The costs totalled approx. 125,000 euros.
The construction work was carried out by the construction company Thomas Hübler from Dresden. The planning office Kretzschmar & Partner, also from Dresden, was commissioned with the planning.
