Irrigation systems of the planting islands repeatedly destroyed
Just three weeks after the first incident of vandalism, further damage was found to the plant islands on Bahnstrasse. All integrated cisterns were irreparably destroyed.
As this means that watering is no longer possible, the city of Chemnitz has decided to at least save the plants and replant them elsewhere in the city.
Just two days after the start of the traffic trial, attentive neighbours observed massive vandalism (see press release 389).
The traffic trial on Bahnstrasse began on 31 May. Nine planted islands equipped with an automatic irrigation system were set up on alternate sides of the road as a measure to calm traffic as requested by residents.
There are sufficiently long meeting points for traffic between the constrictions. Heavy goods vehicles or buses and cyclists can also meet safely at the narrowest narrowing point. If two cars or a car with a lorry/bus meet, mutual consideration may have to be shown or priority may have to be given.
The traffic test will be accompanied by a large number of traffic surveys (cross-section counts with side radar, number plate surveys). (see press release 372)
